Jason Wu to 'Target' Fashion for the Masses

Tim Boyle/Bloomberg via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- While football fans are gearing up for the Super Bowl, fashion fans may be heading to Target Sunday, where designer Jason Wu is unveiling an affordable Parisian-inspired line that features delicate blouses, pleated skirts, handbags and clutches.

While luxury department stores can sell Jason Wu items for almost $5000, Target is selling almost 60 items, including women’s clothing and accessories, for under $60.

The collection became available Sunday morning, and already many of the items are sold out online.

According to a Target news release, “the collection’s Parisian inspiration is found in Wu’s exclusive muse for Target, Milu, a mischievous, illustrated black cat that will be found on a t-shirt, tote bag and silk scarf, as well as in the collection’s marketing campaign.”

First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Blake Lively are fans of Wu’s designs.

“His lines are so beautiful. He’s so classic and elegant and really timeless. He has such iconic shapes,” said Lively.

Actress Chlore Moretz was among Wu’s celebrity pals who stopped by the launch party at Skylight SOHO in New York.

“I do shop at Target. Duh! Tar-zhay. That’s what happens. What’s up. That little dog sells me every time,” said Moretz.

“I just think it’s awesome it’s going to be affordable. So I’m re-naming Super Bowl Sunday ‘Jason Wu for Target Day,’” said actress Emily Rossum, who attended the launch party dressed in pieces from Wu’s Target collection.

Obama and Romney Advisers Square Off on the Economy

Creatas Images/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) -- The chief architect of President Obama’s economic plan and Republican rival Mitt Romney’s top economic strategist squared off Sunday in a preview of the likely fall debate on the economy, challenging each other on whether the president’s policies have helped or hurt the economic recovery.

The monthly jobs report released Friday showed greater-than-expected growth, with 243,000 new jobs added in January, as the unemployment rate dipped to 8.3 percent. That powered the stock market to its highest closing level since the 2008 financial crisis.

Lawrence Summers, former director of President Obama’s National Economic Council, told ABC News on Sunday that he “was surprised by how favorable these numbers were.” He added that the report showed more promising signs than in the past year, crediting President Obama’s policies for the growth.

“If you look beneath the surface of this one, almost every indicator within it is favorable.” Summers said. “Employment is up. Labor force participation did not decline. This was unemployment reduction generated by more jobs.”

“A ton of this is coming from the president’s policies,” Summers added. “It’s coming from the program he put in place to contain what was a situation worse than the Great Depression in 2009 and the steps going forward that the president proposes are the right ones.”

Romney economic adviser Glenn Hubbard, currently dean of the Columbia Business School, said that while it was a good report, he noted that growth at the same level will be needed for two years to return to pre-recession levels. He said the president’s policies have not done enough, citing underemployment and fewer people looking for work.

“The question is, could we have done much better? And could we have done it in such a way that would have had better fiscal consequences?” Hubbard asked. “How do we grow faster and create jobs more? The president’s agenda is squarely against that.”

To continue growth, Summers pushed for Congress to follow President Obama’s call to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance extension through the year.

“This is no time for complacency,” Summers said. “That’s why every day that the Congress fails to extend the payroll tax cut, every day that the Congress fails to extend the unemployment insurance is a day we’re taking more risk than we need to with this economy.”

Summers also said Republican calls to repeal new financial regulations were “dangerous and inappropriate.”

“Surely, this is the time when we need to protect the economy from the kind of mistakes that took place in the financial sector before,” Summers said.

Hubbard countered that “the jury’s still out” on whether not making the extensions would harm the economic recovery, instead calling for long-term reforms of entitlements and the tax code.

“I think there’s a serious debate over the payroll tax and the unemployment insurance benefits, but there also needs to be a serious debate on what we can do in tax policy, in health care, in regulation and financial reform to actually create jobs,” Hubbard said. “The administration’s been standing in the way.”

Occupy DC: Police Raid Camp

Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- U.S. Park Police clad in riot gear and on horseback raided the Occupy DC camp on Saturday to enforce a ban on camping in McPherson Square, a federal park, authorities said.

“They effectively removed any kind of bedding from the tents and they’re going to start searching them soon,” Legba Carrefour, a spokesperson for Occupy DC told ABCNews.com. “We’re still watching this unfold. The cops are still here in force.”

Four people were arrested after stepping inside police barricades that surrounded a statue of General McPherson, Carrefour said.

Last week, U.S. Park Police announced it would enforce a ban on camping in the park.

Regulations in the federal park permit protesters to stay around the clock and have tents on the premises, however they are barred from sleeping.

A handful of Occupy DC protesters have gone on a no-sleep strike to protest the rule.

“People are focusing on saving their personal possessions. The plan is to regroup and then we are going to escalate,” Carrefour said. “Occupying isn’t limited to parks and squares.”

The D.C. encampment is one of the few camps still standing after the Occupy Wall Street movement began in New York City’s Zuccotti Park on Sept. 17.

Last-Minute Super Bowl Tickets from $10,000?

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- Dante Cassiani of Boston is earning his stripes as a "diehard" New England Patriots fan by driving 950 miles to Indianapolis with eight friends in the hope of getting tickets to watch his home team play the Super Bowl Sunday.

"It was a toss-up. We wanted to be home to enjoy the game there but decided to go down there," he said.

Cassiani, 28, a full-time student and part-time restaurant worker, and his girlfriend, Michelle Gaudet, 27, have attended 10 Patriots games in the recent season, including two playoff games and one away game against the Washington Redskins.

The highest price paid for a single ticket for the Super Bowl, as of Friday, was $16,480 for a lower-level seat near the 40-yard line on the Giants' side, according to the NFL Ticket Exchange by Ticketmaster.

The average ticket price for this year's Super Bowl, as of Friday afternoon, was $3,420.08, according to TiqIQ, a ticket aggregator. The most expensive ticket available on TiqIQ's website goes for $10,589, and there is a hotel suite available for $445,000

The group is leaving in a 40-foot rented RV Friday night and expects the trip to last 17 hours, as reported in the Boston Herald.

Cassiani and his friends knows it's a long-shot to get tickets in their price range to join the 67,000 fans who will fill Lucas Oil Stadium. But they plan to watch the game at a bar or on a TV in the RV but will also "passively" look for tickets for less than $1,500 apiece.

If the Patriots win the Super Bowl for the fourth time, avenging their loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII in 2008, Cassiani said, "It will be mayhem and once in a lifetime."

The average price for the games has dropped 15 percent in the past six days, and 6.6 percent from Thursday to Friday. If the pattern from previous Super Bowls abides, ticket prices may decrease further, said Chris Matcovich, TiqIQ's director of data and communications.

"We tend to see drops like this in the Super Bowl, though they're usually sooner than this," he said.

Matcovich said out-of-town fans—from Boston or New York—would have to tackle skyrocketing auxiliary costs, such as for hotels and airline tickets, in which case ticket-sellers could adjust prices lower to meet a possible dip in demand.

The cheapest flights to Indianapolis from New York this weekend were about $313 each way this weekend, as of Friday.

Joellen Ferrer, spokeswoman for StubHub, said tickets were 10 percent cheaper than they were last year. Immediately after the conference championships two weeks ago, the low end of ticket prices was $2,700, but the market has settled down since then.

"Indianapolis is not the easiest place to travel to," she said. "People were excited, but some ultimately figured they couldn't go."

Tickets selling on StubHub end at kick-off, so Ferrer said ticket prices tend to go down toward the start of the game.

"But the Super Bowl is a bit of an outlier," she said.

For fans like Cassiani or others who have not yet bought tickets, StubHub will have representatives outside the stadium to assist fans, plus a pre-game party for all ticket holders who purchased from StubHub.

Ferrer couldn't disclose how many Super Bowl tickets StubHub had sold, but she said of the several thousand, 35 percent of tickets were purchased from the New York-New Jersey area while 17 percent came from the New England states.

Ferrer said there may be a combination of factors, but "some people have said there is a 'been there, done that' mentality from the Boston area."

LA Woman Took on Honda and Won?Can You?

Tomohiro Ohsumi/Bloomberg/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Now that Heather Peters has won $9,867 in small-claims court against Honda because her 2006 Civic Hybrid had failed to live up to the advertised mileage, others are tempted to file their own complaints in small claims courts.

But experts are divided over whether that strategy makes sense for most people. Some note that Peters is a lawyer, giving her an advantage in battling a major corporation like American Honda Motor Co.

Peters, 46, had opted out of a class-action suit because Honda’s proposed class-action settlement would give aggrieved owners $100 to $200 each and a $1,000 credit toward the purchase of a new car. Instead, she pursued her personal claim in small claims court and won.

Randy Sottile, an automotive expert who has been involved in more than 11,000 lemon law cases, said the move is not for everybody.

“For the average consumer who does not have a lot of time and money, this would be at best a daunting task,” he said.

But Richard Cupp, a law professor at Pepperdine University, applauded Peters’ David versus Goliath approach.

“The results speak for themselves. She did 100 times better than $100,” he told ABC News. “This case tells you that small-claims court is a possible and viable option we should consider.”

Cupp said arguments that Peters had an edge because of her law background were overstated. He said that small claims courts tried to be very informal and get at the truth.

“They tend to relax the rules of evidence, relax the mystique of being in a court,” he said. “It’s built for normal folks. I don’t want people to be discouraged from grabbing the bull by the horns. I think people can do it. It’s not that scary.”

He said that in California and other states, the amount people could win in small-claims courts was increasing—California doubled its cap to $10,000—and that the Internet made filing claims and researching companies much easier.

Cupp said that the other 200,000 owners of the Hybrid Honda Civic model sold in 2006 had a chance to win as much as Peters did.

“She’s done a lot of the hard work that benefit other people who might have claims against Honda,” he said. “They don’t have to reinvent the wheel. They can piggyback on the work she’s done.”

Sottile, however, suggested suing under lemon law provisions and advised against going to small-claims court because it’s time consuming, costly and also limits other legal action.

Sottile said most attorneys will provide a free evaluation to consumers on their lemon law rights and in many states, including California, if a consumer brings a lemon law claim against a car company, the company is responsible for the consumer’s legal fees regardless of who wins the case.

“Class action suits generally give a minimal reward back to the consumer, far less than they’re legally entitled to in a lemon law claim and far less than other avenues they can pursue,” said Sottile.

“Most class action cases requires consumers to opt out of the suit, so before a consumer stays in they should speak with an attorney to make sure it is the right decision,” he said.

Woman Accused of Selling Fake Facebook Stock

Peter Foley/Bloomberg via Getty Images(OSHKOSH, Wis.) -- A woman in Wisconsin is accused of selling fake Facebook stock the same day the company went public.

Marianne Oleson, 46, of Oshkosh, Wis., is being charged with 33 felony counts of fraud, theft and forgery as well as a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession.

Randy Stafford, a contractor who worked on Oleson's Winnebago County house, filed a criminal complaint stating Oleson scammed him and four others into buying fake stock.

"She said, 'Hey, this is way bigger than Google and it's breaking all the barriers, records and investments, so I invested,'" Stafford told ABC News.

He wanted to invest to better his family and make life a little easier.

Stafford said he did contracting work on Oleson's house in exchange for what he believed would be 3,000 shares of stock, which would come out to around $100,000-worth. He said he did $18,000 of contracting work in addition to giving Oleson $10,000 in cash.

He initially heard about the business opportunity from a friend, who Stafford said is also a victim. Oleson told him that her uncle in the iron mine industry passed away, leaving her $3.5 million. She also told Stafford her daughter attended Harvard University with Mark Zuckerberg and is a doctor in California.

After Oleson showed Stafford paperwork, he passed it on to an investment firm that told him it was legitimate. All he had to do was wait for an official certificate.

Stafford started to become suspicious when Oleson would not conduct business over email, text message or phone calls, and would only speak freely in her home. She also changed the date when he would receive the certificate from six weeks to when Facebook would become public.

After the delay, he looked up public records under the name she had given him, Marianne Johnson. He did not find a Johnson, but found Oleson.

"Red flags were really flying up, and at that point that's when I went in on my own investigation," said Stafford.

Stafford talked to Gignesh Movalia, owner of Florida-based OM Investment Management, where Oleson said she got the paperwork. Movalia had heard the same story and sent Oleson paperwork, but there had never been any payment.

An attorney for Facebook in California told Stafford that Facebook could not confirm whether she owned stock or not, but it was doubtful because stock cannot be sold in the secondary market.

"I was still unbelieving," Stafford said. "I was trying everything to prove it was real."

However, after talking to the Facebook attorney, he contacted police. He said police told him they could not make an arrest because not everything connected.

"So that's when I went in to connect the dots with a wire," said Stafford. "She wouldn't do it by email, texting or phone; she seemed like a canary in her house."

Stafford said he went to the police to make sure Oleson would be off the street.

"It wasn't so much getting my money back, but getting her to stop," he said. "She would have scammed more people. I did the right thing to protect other people."

Stafford added that Oleson was good at what she was doing, that she did a lot of homework and could answer any question about the deal.

"If it's too good to be true, it probably is," he said.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office told ABC News it could not comment on the case because it is an ongoing investigation, but said they believe there are more victims.

Oleson's attorney did not return ABC News' request for comment.

A Good Day for US Stocks with Favorable Jobs Report

Investors were pleased with the numbers released Friday, which showed that unemployment fell to 8.3 percent in January -- its lowest level in three years.

The Dow closed up 157 points, closing at 12,862 -- a three-year low for the index. The S&P gained 19 points, and the Nasdaq added nearly 46 -- a level not seen since December 2000.

The surge in hiring seemed to lift oil prices. Crude oil jumped to just under $98 a barrel.

S.M.A.R.T. Ways to Increase Your Personal Savings

Comstock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- If you find yourself already falling behind your New Year’s resolution to put yourself in better financial shape this year, you’re not alone.

Saving money and making smart financial decisions are attainable goals but, more often than not, people fall short and end up having trouble making ends meet.

Fortunately, there are smart and easy steps you can take to get your financial life back on track.

Alexa Von Tobel, founder of LearnVest, a financial and money-management site geared towards women, spoke with ABC News about her site’s S.M.A.R.T. money management program.

Von Tobel says using the five steps -- Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely -- outlined below will increase your savings and empower you financially.

S -- SPECIFIC. Make specific goals with your financial resolutions. Von Tobel says to look three to five years into your future to figure out what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to save for a home, or a child, for example, or maybe just a specific amount of money?

“Back into what you need to achieve this year in order to get there, and then come up with one specific number,” Von Tobel says. “Create a specific number and know it.”

M -- MEASURABLE. Von Tobel says it’s important to make your goal(s) measurable and to narrow them into smaller, or what she calls, “micro goals.” If you want to save $10,000 this year, for example, you need to save about $1,000 per month.

“Make smaller numbers that you can measure so that every single month you can know where you’re achieving and know that you have very simple smaller numbers that you can use to measure progress,” she says.

A -- ATTAINABLE. This step is crucial for setting expectations and ensuring that you know the steps you need to take to achieve your savings goal(s).

“If you are making these goals, I want you to figure out how you’re going to attain them,” Von Tobel says. “I want you to step back and say, ‘If I’m trying to save that $10,000, where am I going to cut it from my budget?” Am I going to save an extra $200 per week, and how is that going to happen?’”

R -- REALISTIC. This fourth step is an important aspect in setting expectations for yourself so you don’t set goals that are not achievable and then abandon them completely when they’re not met.

“If you go through and realize that there’s just no chance that you can save $10,000 and the number is more like $5,000 this year, then set a realistic goal,” Von Tobel advises.

T -- TIMELY. This final step requires that you set mini check-ins for yourself and your goals, and is the most important of the five steps, according to Von Tobel.

“If you’re trying to save $10,000 this year, what do you need to do every single two weeks, or what do you need to do every single month?” she says. “Set a number that you’re trying to achieve and check in with it.”

Report Shows Large Drop in African-American Unemployment

Comstock/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) -- The unemployment rate among African-Americans dropped by more than two percentage points from December to January, according to the labor department’s report released Friday.

African-American unemployment has never been lower than 15 percent since 2009, but plummeted from 15.8 percent to 13.6 percent last month. The number is no longer double the white unemployment rate as it has been for years, but is still disproportionately higher.

The drop was even more pronounced among black men, a demographic that saw nearly 17 percent unemployment in Jan. 2011. The unemployment rate for black men for January 2012 was 12.7 percent.

January’s statistics signal a distinct change from previous numbers that show huge and increasing disparities between white and black employment rates. In several reports during 2011, the jobless rate for African-Americans went up while the rate for whites declined.

January marked the first month since October that the African-American unemployment rate dropped in line with the overall rate.
